Dental Test & Tag

we use the latest equipment for certification

What is Testing & Tagging?

Test and Tag is the name given to the process of checking the safety of portable electrical appliances. There are two stages to the process.

Stage 1: Visually inspecting the appliance/dental equipment for any damage

Stage 2: Specialised electronic testing with a Portable Appliance Tester. Our equipment is ‘top of the range’, ensuring accurate results are delivered faster, allowing you to get on with what you do best – helping your patients.

After testing, a tag is placed on the item to confirm it has been tested. The tag also lists other critical information such as the date it was tested, who tested it and when the next test is due.

Do I need test and tag services performed in my Dental Clinic?

Dental Practice owners have obligations, as set out in the Occupational Health & Safety Act (2004) and associated Regulations, to remain compliant and ensure dental staff have a safe working environment. Testing and Tagging helps minimise risk of electric shock from portable electrical equipment.

Due to the unique environment of Dental Practices being fast paced workplaces, where staff are exposed to electrical equipment generating extreme heat sources, electrical tagging and testing needs to be an essential aspect of your workplace risk management framework. Substantial penalties apply to employers and managers where inadequate safety measures lead to the injury or the death of a worker.

Finally, while you do your utmost to provide exceptional patient care and monitoring, there may be instances where patients have access to touching electrical cords (eg; a child touches a water cooler or air purifier in a waiting room etc) so reducing patient risk is also critical.

Is Annual Body Protection testing and inspection required?

In short, yes! The electrical requirements for a Body Protected Area are outlined in AS/NZ 3003:2018. Within this context, a body protected area refers to spaces such as patient treatment rooms, including dental surgeries, OPG rooms, some consult rooms and more.

To maintain adherence to the standard, these areas must undergo annual routine inspection and testing and our team are certified to conduct these tests, in accordance with standards AS/NZ 3003:2018.
